Drawing and is an instinctive activity for children starting at a very early age. Toddlers would take any drawing tool and move it across a piece of paper and simply leave their mark there, while older children will aim at the describing the external and their internal world: drawing people, houses, trees, plants and other fantasy creatures.
Drawing is a fun activity for kids at any age and it requires nothing but some drawing tools (chalks, markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc) and sheets of paper (even recycled ones). Drawing and any other art activities in general help develop the kids’ fine motor skills and creativity and allows them to express themselves and experiments with different ideas and materials.
Drawing Game Ideas for Kids at Different Ages
Drawing to Music
In this drawing game the kids are asked to express their visual interpretation to the sounds of a song or a classical music piece. The game prompts kids to listen to music with careful intention and exposes them to various abstract ideas according to the kids’ age: how music creates atmosphere and feeling, how to express different emotions in drawing and so on.
There are several versions of this drawing game and it usually requires at least two partners. In one version, one of the players chooses an object and asks the other partner or partners to draw it while wearing blindfolds. In another version, only one of the players is blindfold while the others are given an abstract object and they give him drawing instructions.
Simon Says Drawing
The drawing game version of the classic game Simon Says also requires at least two participants, who follow the instructions of the leader. The game offers endless creative ideas: Simon says draw a car, Simon Says draw white on a dark background, Simon says switch papers and so on.
